The script type Ruq’ah is a relatively modern Arabic script created by the Ottomans in the year 1280 AH, corresponding to the year 1863 AD. It is characterised by ease of reading, speed of writing, and avoidance of complexity. The sizes of its letters are weighted in dots, and it is often formed within narrow boundaries with the exception of Qur’anic verses. It is the most common script and is written in most Arab countries. Now, the Ruq’a script is used by the general public in their daily writings, due to its ability to be written in a narrow space when compared to other Arabic scripts. It is now used in the titles of books, magazines, daily newspapers, commercial advertisements, banners, advertising, holiday cards, and some certificates presented to students.
