Study of the Ten Qirā'āt - Minor and Major

The institute prides itself for its structured, thorough, and traditional dissemination of the qirā’āt. Students combine between theory and practice by way of memorising and understanding the principal texts in the field: al-Shātibiyyah and al-Durrah for the ten minor qirā’āt, and al-Tayyibah for the ten major qirā’at.
The science has a significant dependence on the Arabic language. As such, it is explained in its native, original tongue, allowing unsanctioned access to its many gems.

Ten Qira’at – as-Sughra (minor)
This course is structured to take place weekly over the duration of one year, with individual assessments aimed to assist and challenge the student in their journey.
To be suitable for the course, students must have memorised the whole Qur’an or a large portion of it, as well as have a strong command of Arabic, especially comprehension.
There will be support provided throughout the course by way of teaching assistants and previous graduates, so applicants can rest assured they will receive adequate help in their learning.
Classes for our academic year 2024/5 begin in September.

Instructors: Sheikh Shoieb Aly and Sheikh Nadir Hilal
Class Format: Onsite only.
Progression: Successful completion of this course leads to progression onto our al-Kubra course.
Fees: £600
Please note, students will be provided with a matn of ash-Shatibiyyah and ad-Durrah but other supportive texts are not included in the fee.
Assessments: Hurdles throughout the course
Pre-conditions: This class is open to all brothers and sisters, including external non-Jazari students. Students are expected to ideally be atleast level 4 in their Qur’an journey (level details can found by clicking here.)
About al-Kubra
Ten Qira’at – al-Kubra (major)
This course is structured to take place weekly over six months. Students are expected to have completed as-Sughra and their Jam’ before embarking on this journey.
