1. Farsh al-Huruf through the Ten Qiraʾat

A detailed study of the specific words and passages of the Qur’an in which the Ten Reciters differ, according to the readings transmitted through al-Shatibiyyah and al-Durrah. Students will learn the recognised variants of recitation and precisely identify the places in which differences occur.

2. Tawjih al-Qiraʾat – Understanding and Analysing the Qiraʾat

An exploration of the meanings conveyed by the different Qiraʾat, their linguistic foundations, and the distinctive linguistic, legal and interpretive insights contained within each reading.

3. The Science of Counting the Verses of the Qur’an (ʿIlm ʿAd Ay al-Qurʾan)

A study of the different systems used by the recognised authorities in determining the number and divisions of the verses of the Qur’an, the areas in which these traditions differ, and the implications of these differences for recitation, stopping (waqf) and beginning (ibtidaʾ).

These sciences are essential for the serious student of Qiraʾat. Studying them broadens the student’s understanding, reveals the finer details and subtleties of the discipline, and takes them beyond simply knowing the different modes of recitation towards deeper understanding, precision and mastery.
