Levels of Study

Suitable for complete beginners, students at this level would familiarise themselves with the Arabic Alphabet and begin learning how to recite. Students would study the last portion of the 30th Juz with their teacher.

Students with a bit more familiarity of reading the Qur’ān would begin their journey at this level with the goal of reaching fluency. The 30th Juz would be studied with the teacher and some memorisation can also be incorporated.

At this level the student would begin their journey on reading the whole Qur’ān from cover to cover, or memorising the Qur’ān in a 1-2-1 setting to extract the most benefit. Students at this level would also study famous poems of Tajwīd including Tuhfat al-Atfāl and Jazariyyah (or other Tajwīd texts) to grasp concepts in a succinct manner. Students would attain good proficiency at this level, however to progress on to further levels, memorisation of the complete Qur’ān would be a requirement.

Having completed the memorisation of Qur’ān, a student at this level would seek to perfect his/her recitation towards attaining an Ijāzah in a mode of recitation. The Arabic language including the Science of Waqf (stopping) and Ibtida’ (starting) would also be studied.

Having obtained an Ijāzah in a Riwāyah, to strengthen his/her hifdh and to increase a love and passion of the Qur’ān, students at this level would seek to attain an Ijāzah in an additional Riwāyah by studying its principles’ and reciting in that mode beginning to end from memory.

For those who hold a deep love for the Qur’an, students would initiate the study of the Ten Qirā’āt at this level. Each student would embark the journey by studying the related theory in a group setting followed by reciting in Jam’ individually to their teacher from beginning to end the whole Qur’an
